Stop for lunch on your own in Sundance Square-a dazzling, 35-block area filled with boutiques, restaurants, bars and art galleries. Next, stop at the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, to learn about the cowboys and cowgirls who have shown excellence in competition, business and support of western lifestyle. Discover the historical heart of the downtown district and hear fascinating tales surrounding the legends and mysteries of the area. View Pioneer Plaza, commemorating the trails that brought settlers to Dallas and cattle to market, the Historic West End and the infamous Dealey Plaza. Learn all about a moment in history at the 6th Floor Museum, the somber location from which Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy in 1963. This afternoon, enjoy a nostalgic visit to Southfork Ranch, made famous by the international hit TV series Dallas. Visit the famed Ewing Ranch, featuring an exciting array of show memorabilia. |Day 4||Austin||Dallas - Waco - Austin (2 Nights): Head south for Waco where you visit the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum to learn about the famed law enforcement agency. The afternoon is free in Austin for you to explore this fabulous city further at your own pace. Perhaps stroll along Sixth Street, where you'll hear the sounds that make Austin the "Live Music Capital of the World." |Day 6||Boerne||Austin - Fredericksburg - Bandera - Boerne: This morning, journey to the heart of Texas Hill Country and visit the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Site. Learn all about LBJ and Lady Bird at their beloved ranch as you explore the Texas White House. Journey to the beautifully preserved German village of Fredericksburg. Take a leisurely stroll in the historic district, surrounded by turn-of-the-century architecture, history, heritage, and culture. Then take a short drive to Bandera, the "Cowboy Capital of the World," for a ranch experience. Learn how to dance the Cotton-Eyed Joe and the Texas Two-Step. A Regional Meal is served with all the trimmings while you are entertained by live music and dancing. Later, join a storyteller around a campfire with s'mores before retiring to your hotel. |Day 7||San Antonio||Boerne - San Antonio Sightseeing (2 Nights): Continue further into the south Texas plains arriving in San Antonio, a city rich in history and culture, originally settled by the Spanish who built a mission here-The Alamo. On arrival, enjoy a guided tour with a Local Specialist and explore San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The missions were first established in the 17th century, with the aspiration to spread Christianity to the local indigenous peoples. Visit Mission Conception before stopping at El Mercado, a traditional and vibrant market, where you have a chance to sample typical treats. This evening, walk along the famous San Antonio River Walk, a delightful network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River. It was here, in 1836, that the Mexican army besieged a seriously outnumbered group of settlers, including Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, for nearly two weeks before they were overrun. Next, view the San Fernando Cathedral, seat of the Archbishop and one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States, and explore King William Historic District to see more of San Antonio's magnificent architecture. |Day 9||Houston||San Antonio - Schulenburg - Houston Sightseeing: Head to Houston, the state's largest and most diverse city, stopping in Schulenburg-home to some beautiful painted churches. Once in Houston, meet your Local Specialist for a guided tour including Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros baseball team; Market Square Park, a historic square surrounded by 19th century buildings; the original courthouse and City Hall; the Theatre District and the Texas Medical Center, the largest in the world. Visit the JPMorgan Chase Tower's observation deck (subject to availability), perched on the 60th floor with great views over the city and pop into the Houston tunnel system, a network of climate-controlled walkways located 20 feet (6 metres) below ground and connecting 95 city blocks.
